Coding in divs.

First of all, i was wondering if the following is the right way to slice for expandable layouts.

And secondly how do u code in divs so that there is

and so it all expands

because i have no clue

thanks for that, how would i do that? would i do it in multiple sections so i code the top then left then right and slap them together?
