Drawing the line on pointless posting

A couple of months ago I tried to highlight that pointless posting and spam was over enforced in some area's and to lightly enforced in other's though I must admit Habbox has a reasonably good balance of selecting the pointless posts, I feel a number still slip through the net and wondered if there was any idea's to tackle it and how.

In threads users often just agree with replies to the question, with no constructive posting at all and adding no knowledge of their own and not even extending on previous posts.

For example:
Someone creates a thread 'What is the date of bonfire night?'
'5th of November'
'It's the the 5th of November'
'I agree it's the 5th of November'
'I think it's the 5th of November
'5th of November'

I understand if more user's 'agree' it gives you more confidence and you can then be sure the evidence is correct, but most the time people are just increasing their post count and aren't helping at all and in some cases it makes it difficult and irritating to read the thread and basically gets out of hand, here's just a little case:

I'm sure by the third reply they would of got the message but none of the people replying are breaking the rules. Surely we all agree in that particular thread user's are just spamming and increasing their post count and it's unnecessary for them to post all that?

Is there a way this could be tackled and a rule enforced because this 'loop-hole' is continually being exploited for users to spam. Maybe it's just me

If people want to increase their post count, they will always find a way to do it no matter what is done. Personally I don't see why you are worried about others increasing their post count? Post count doesn't really mean much. A user could post 300 posts which are detailed, constructive and very informative and another user could post 1500 posts replying to threads saying "Well done, congrats!" to people. Who would be the more respect member? Obviously the 300 posts user as his/her post are helping many other members and visiters.

It usually takes a matter of minutes to find out whether a member is a very helpful member of the community. I believe that is what matters, not the rep power/rep points or post count of a user.

I agree with Jordy on this one Mad.

It's getting out of hand, especially in the website section where people ask for coding help. As I find myself posting a coded solution then people repeating it. From what I can see it's to get easy reputation. As normally the thread creators will give positive rep to anyway that helps.

If you notice a user constantly doing it, then report the post and explain the situation or create a thread in the "Report rule breaking" forum and explain the problem there. I guess you could consider it spam if they do it in all the posts everywhere.

Well actually I don't find it too bad people moving their post count up pointlessly, however I thought it would be you that does find it a issue, because if it wasn't an issue then you'd allow users to spam everywhere.

I just find it very irritating reading a thread where everyone replies like that and then you see someone else who goes vaguely off topic in another thread and they get a moderator edit.

Klydo's point on reputation is a very valid one and there's no point reporting it because they're not breaking any rules and I don't have time to go around remembering everyone's username that does this.

Make a sort of rule, or agreement, which states a 3 post rule saying along the lines of "if the same answer has been given more than 3 times, then it is pointless posting" and enforce it, let people learn.

I've been complaining about this in threads for a very long time.

If it was within like 5 mins of each other then I understand that they didn't see the thread refresh or something.

Then I'll see someone ask;
*example* How do I check my rep?
Answer 1: User CP
Answer 2 (couple mins later): User CP
Answer 3 (30 mins later): User CP
Answer 4 (3 hours later): User CP
etc etc.

I'm definately down for some sort of rule about this being put into place. It's not even about the post counts for me it's about the fact that when something has been said once, it doesn't really have to be said twice, three times, four times, five times and anything beyond that.
