No it weren't LOL, it was the record label that put it on theree, Leona has said in an interview

& regardless of that you should listen to the remix which features vocals from both http://youtube.com/watch?v=c8-xs_zik_o puts a nice twist on the song.

Yes I bet there was, because infact there was, I don't feel the need to make up stories to defend Leona having it on her album or why would I be just saying it about 'I Will Be', I would be naturally making up things about 'The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face' which Leona re-recorded for her album, but infact I am not because I feel no need to lie as any artist should feel naturally priveleged to have Leona sing a song wrote by them, because the girl has talent which isn't often seen anymore, her live performances sound like the album cuts, something some artists in particular find it hard to match and as well as the fact Avril never even wrote the song on her own, it was written between three writers, infact has Avril ever wrote a whole song with the full writing credits, a song which made the original album cut, because I don't think so.
