I've always imagined that it will feel like when you sleep but you're not dreaming, just absolute nothingness.
I've never really imagined it to be painful.

Alas, we spend so much time considering what happens after death, we forget that we're living right here and now.

My mum has "died" once, she was brought back obviously, but still, she says there was nothing.

Sounds like dreams? I think someone needs to see a therapist

(unless you were resusitated but then you weren't really dead yet)

Depends, as there is a debate on the proper medical definition of death. Many say it's when you're brain stops functioning, although some people live like this with others having to everything for them while they DO have a beating heart and functional organs. Other medical experts define it as the stop of your heart beat for x amount of seconds (not 100% sure how long) and that's how some people die 4 or 5 times but remain alive. They are medically defined as dead, but return and continue to live their lives as usual.
