I use 3G all the time, not expensive if your on a data plan like me, not patchy for me and im in a small town, hell even where I live has 3G (countryside).
Not in the UK, o2 is expensive and has awful coverage. Also the fact that 3G is '3.6x' faster than edge is the extreme of it for apple to try to prove something. On o2 3G coverage is only in towns really (I would know I'm on o2), WiFi is much faster.

Beathost, Tom is right, they are trying to spread to all networks. In many countrys the iPhone is available on numerous networks. Its juts a matter of time.

And Matt, although I totally trust you, could you post A link to where you got them bits of info about PAYG iPhones?

And wow, this MobileMe is so tempting. Althought the speeds will still suck like .mac's did.. (mind you, i have been wrong abotu apple before). Im getting this for sure.

And the other good news, 5 quid iPod update!

Edit. Found link, well done Matt!

The £30 contract for the iPhone is a rip off. I mean you seen the amount of texts and calls? Although you do get Unlimited Data & Wi-Fi. But I pay £30 for £90 allowance with web n walk on T-MOBILE. Oh well, I do want an iphone and if its O2 i have to go with, then it will have to do

Link? They signed a contract with o2 giving them exclusive rights to the iPhone in the UK. Just because they have in other countries it doesnt mean they will here.

They signed the exclusive rights only for the original iPhone, not necessarily future iPhones such as the iPhone 3G.
