How often do you back up?

Time Machine is a back up, he could have it hooked up to an external hard drive or even Time Capsule.

I don't back up because I don't have any external hard drives to back onto. But when I do, I shall start backing up every so often.

You can always back-up using the traditional ways on disks or ipods.
