Default Running two different graphics cards

Well, I currently have an Nvidia Geforce 8400GS 256mb graphics card, which came installed in my computer when I bought it. Now I want to up the pace a little with my graphics quality and framerate. Could I run this and ASK Inno3D GeForce 9600GT 512MB DDR3
(Click ^ btw) together? And have them both running, or would the fact I have two different model graphics cards running blow one apart?

Just want to check, only post if you know, thanks.
    Will.

I have a mate who runs two different cards, but he is using an Apple Mac so I'm unsure whether it will work in a windows PC.

You need an Nvidia SLI motherboard, and two identical cards.

You can run different cards, however you won't be able to run them together to get more performance.

It depends how you set it up. I think with default settings (and no program running that deals with 2 monitors) will make the secondary screen go blank while the primary screen will play the game.

If the game is fullscreen, then one screen would go blank. However if you search the name on Google then "in windowed mode" there may be a solution to run the game as a windowed application, so the other screen wouldn't go blank. Sometimes going to the properties of the shortcut to the game, and at the end of thee target path entering " -w" makes it run in windowed mode.
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.
