Pokémon Platinum, to be released in Japan as Pocket Monsters Platinum (ポケットモンスタープラチナ, Poketto Monsutā Purachina?), is an announced title in the Pokémon series of video games. It will be an enhanced remake of Pokémon Diamond and Pear in the same vein as Pokémon Yellow, Crystal, and Emerald. In May 2008, it was announced on the official Pokémon website to be slated for an Autumn 2008 release in Japan,although release dates for other regions are currently unknown.

The game will feature Giratina as its mascot and introduce its Origin Forme (オリジンフォルム, Orijin Forumu?), as seen in Giratina to Sora no Hanataba: Sheimi. Its initial forme is referred to as its Another Forme (アナザーフォルム, Anazā Forumu?). The new storyline will involve a disturbance atop Mt. Coronet, as a portal to the "Ruined World" (やぶれたせかい, Yabureta Sekai?) is opened and Sinnoh's climate becomes colder. The trainers have been given new outfits to suit the colder climate.
The legendary Pokémon Shaymin, which will be distributed as part of admitance to the film Giratina to Sora no Hanataba: Sheimi, will also have an alternate forme in Platinum, known as its "Sky Forme" (スカイフォルム, Sukai Forumu?), a dual Grass and Flying-type Pokémon. When traded from Diamond or Pearl to Platinum, Shaymin will transform from its regular Land Forme (ランドフォルム, Rando Forumu?) into its Sky Forme. It is yet unknown what role Shaymin plays in the story of Platinum. When the special Regigigas that is given out with a pre-order ticket for Giratina to Sora no Hanataba: Sheimi is traded from Diamond or Pearl to Platinum, it activates an event that makes Regice, Regirock, and Registeel available in Platinum.

The main series is still good and pearl and diamond were awesome, so i shall be buying this when it comes out. ^_^

Thanks for this! Im quite a big fan of Pokémon but Diamond/Pearl were a let down so hopefully they have improved it in this one. Its sucks that the UK/US prob wont get until next year.

in what way did you think of it as a let down? i really enjoyed it but i had only played yellow. so pearl was a big jump for me so i missed all the other games.

Iv been following Pokémon since its first episode in the UK and played every game and after Emerald i just think they have over done it, they have totally ran out of names for the Pokémon and personally i think all the new Pokémon names are silly. Also some of the Pokémon don't look that Pokémon-y, the game is also a bit short aswell. There are some other let downs too but they are the main ones and don't forget they are my personal opinions. I did enjoy it but i just expected more for how long it was being developed for.

I agree that the new pokémon are a bit crap. Most of them seem more robotic or humanoid-alien rather than the creatures that they used to be. For me, crystal was the best, and after that the pokémon were boring and essentially remakes of older ones

I've had every single pokemon game since Yellow (adventure ones not pinball etc..) So i will be getting this one.

Hopefully there will be more changes than usual when they make the 3rd game of each gen they should go back to the Gold/Silver days those were the best!
