    Default Fan wont come on?

    Hey,

We have a laptop in the house that my sister uses for basic stuff, just MSN and web browsing.

    http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/pro...em_1201_laptop

Thats the one. Now I turned it on today to transfer some files to it from mine, and the fan didn't come on on boot or in vista. When I tested by running a virus scan, 5 simultaneous youtube videos, installing sims 2, and running Sims 1 collection in full screen, it still didn't come on.

Now it usually gets very hot and I have a feeling my sister was using it on her bed and covered the fan accidentaly, causing it to blow?

What should I do? Thanks. +rep for help.

    That doesn't make sense.

Most computers won't operate at certain temperatures (usually if the CPU gets near 85 it'll cut out) so I don't think heat's the problem as you won't be anywhere close to that heat while booting even without a fan. When you press the on button is there any sign of life at all? Hard drive whirring, Lights etc?

Yeah it comes on but theres no fan noise, ever. I'm just concered it could overheat as I have a feeling the fans died.

Download speedfan and it'll tell you if it's running or if it's broken.

Fan hasn't come on at any point yet, using or booting.

Speedfan hasn't detected your fan, that means it's broken or isn't properly connected (the latter is highly unlikely). Unless you're very very tech savy I don't think you should even attempt to fix this yourself, if it's under warranty take it back to have it repaired.

Do you think PC World would replace it if I took it back there? It's 2months old. :|

I hating seeing threads about laptops, mines broken as I dropped it

Anyway, take it down to pcworld or send it of for fixing, its the only way unless you have knowledge of fixing it.
