How many times do I have to say a lot of the world's nuclear weapon's are out of date, so what if Russia have 7000 and USA have 6000, does it really come down to that...

For a nuke to hit USA, depending from where launched an hour or two from west side of Russia, then 4-5 hours from the east, or the other way around.

The radioactivity alone wouldn't kill the world. The actual explosions would aswell...
