Alright. Listen.
The LHC replicates the big bang theory and the possibility of a black hole is minute. Now, a black hole is created from the collapse of an object within itself, causing the gravity of it's field to become the strength.
So for example, if a star collapsed in on itself it would be one big black hole... but we're talking about particles, the black hole would die out in seconds after it's created.
Secondly, the LHC doesn't even START for another month, it's only being turned on today for all of you who's predicting death today.
Hawkings has founded more into the concept of special relavity, and the concept of black holes than anyone practically. He finds the machine as a god send, and he's right. It's vital for the concept of the human race, a strong and unbelievable renewable energy source can be created by this, which will help Hawkings own prediction that we only have close to 1000 years left in relation to this, as he stated in an interview a few years back.
FURTHERMORE, this isn't the first to be built. There have been 8 made BEFORE this that ran for decades, hell one is even running right this very minute. These are completely safe and you're more likely to die by me coming round to your house with a knife than the machine.
Get over it.

If some of you had actually read the reports, according to the scientists working on the LHC, there has been a lot of (I cannot find the link for the report, it was posted somewhere in here) LHC-like experiments done over the years they started building it, by nature alone, and we're still here..
Also, in reply to the user above, here is a link to a Collider that has been operational since 2000, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relativ...y_Ion_Collider

They haven't even crashed anything yet, they just sent two atoms at speed round the curcuit to make sure it would work. The date for the colliding hasn't been set yet.
No offence to you, but you don't exactly help by not explaining ANYTHING AT ALL. If your going to do that, then at least show you know more about it.How? Dont you read anything about this actual experiment? They dont have now nor will never have in our lifetime, enough energy to make a blackhole able to destroy the world. The only other way anything could go wrong and people die is if the Hydrogen canisters blow up that send protons round and then whoever is in the vicinity will die, not the world.
No offence to you, but your ignorance to this subject is a joke.
tbh, everything you said here I said a page or two agoAlright. Listen.

And it isn't exactly replicating the big bang theory because it's not what they're primarily looking for.

Stop being stupid, either on purpose or you cant understand plain english.
THE LARGE HADRON COLLIDER IS NOT POWERFUL ENOUGH TO DOOM HUMANITY.
Read and repeat as many times as necessary until you understand.
We don't actually know that until they crash the protons though, that's why they're saying it COULD produce a blackhole that doesn't decay by hawking radiation.
