    Default Contract age?

I'm looking to get a new phone and I've spotted a really good contract from Orange with a phone that I want. However when I go to order the phone it doesn't allow me to select my exact birthdate ('91) and after reading around it seems you have to be 18 to legally enter a contract. However what confuses me is that there are plenty of people I've seen around that are on contract and they certainly aren't 18. I have no problems supporting the contract at all in terms of the line rental and I very much doubt I will go over the amount of free minutes and texts anyway. When reading around I saw some people saying that some networks and shops will willing let a under 18 sign up to a contract because they are trying to get their commission for the day.

I don't really want to have my parents sign up to the contract and have to pay them whatever the bill comes to each month because I can pay for it myself so it's just easier that way. On the site I can set my date as 29/09/1990 which would mean I'm 17, however I'm 17 in 3 weeks anyway but I don't really want to enter false information incase they find out and I end up getting slapped with a big bill or something for deliberately supply fake information.

So, what I'm asking is are any of you currently on contracts under the age of 18? and have any of you been able to get on a contract on your own through a company, ie not through taking the contract out on your parents name?

    Cheers

thats because they're parents have brought the contract for them. I wouldn't do a contract, I'd get the pay and go phones, it's a lot easier. and if you don't have the money to pay the contract you can get bad credit, or in this case, you can't do this as your not 18 yet.

Is PAYG easier?! You have to go into shops and buy top up cards, with contract its done automatically via Direct debit!? You must be mad!

To enter any contract, usually you have to be 18 or have a parent/gaurdian with you.

As said most of us here with contracts have our parents do it for us. I know my mobile number is registered under my dad.

I think its 18, my mum wouldn't trust me with a contract so I'm going to have to wait till I'm 18

If your under 18, and you forget about your payment, your parent has to pay for it?

No, They just fry your phone, They can't MAKE someone pay for something.

All in all, 18 is the legal age because thats the age you have to be to be responsible for your own finance, as entering into a contact could make you go overdrawn and give you bad credit ect ect..

Just get your parents to do it and set up a standing order to pay them for it.
    PM me for help.

What you have done is basically signed up under your mums name, put her though the credit check etc but for the billing profile for the account there is your name and there is your address.

Basically if you don't pay your bill, a credit notice will be sent to your mum and if failure to pay after 60 days will see a note added to your mums credit history.

We do this alot when people under 18 come in to sign up with their parents in store.

You have to be 18 but after the first month you can get the contract transfered to your account, so you pay for it yourself.
