Default Linksys router password help +rep

I had a Linksys wireless G router model WRT54G. How do I add a password and change its "name". I have tried going to the http://192.168.1.1 site to type username: admin password: admin but it does not work.

    Any help?

I'm on mac btw if that helps.

Sorry can't edit. Realised I need to connect my laptop via ethernet cable to one of the ports on the router too. I'm gonna get one tomorrow. But meanwhile, is there anyway to do this without using 2 cables?

Next time you forget your router has a reset button to restore default settings.

Which would have set your password back to default.
