Default iPod, iTunes and file Permissions!

Okay, I'll start with the biggest problem. My iPod. I recently plugged my iPod into my PC and it froze. I did what I thought to be the best idea and reset it pressing Menu and the Centre button. It reset but stuck itself on the Apple Logo. I took it into the Apple Shop ad they said that I could go home, back up my stuff and then restore it. Didn't go to plan at all though, I plugged it in and the iPod decided it needed to be reformatted which eant I couldn't even save my songs! I then went to restore it but the computer wouldn't pick it up, then when it did it said it had to download a recovery package, which didn't initialize after I openned it. What do I do?

Now, ith my files being gone from the iPod I need to get them all back. Not easy though, as my backup is on a partition that Windows Vista doesn't want me to access. What happened was, I was running XP Happily, everything was fine but I decided it was time to move onto Vista. My PC is a Packard Bell PC which didn't coe with a recovery disk, instead they paritioned it for me, to give me to drives. The C Drive is also a backup drive and it where all my Vista windows files were, but the other partition D is much larger and is were I'm supposed to save all my data. However, Vista, when installing didn't set any permissions for partition D which means that all my iPod backup is controlled by XP, which is no longer there. I can set the permissions for each audio and video files, oe by one but to be honest I don't think I could handle that task. Is there anyway I can change the permissions on all of these files at once?

+REP for any help, I'm quite desperate.

I didn't buy songs from iTunes, and even if I did, I can re-download them for free?

Sorry, I must've worded it wrong, but the XP system files are gone, but my personal files are still there, they are just owned by XP, if you know what I mean?
