I think what he was saying is that they aren't making money from the site its self, it was more the management, investors but of course, i could be wrong.

I'd reccomend staying away from social network sites, it's such a crowded market at the moment. So unless your social network has a unique point, think Last.fm, then it's very unlikely it will ever get anywhere.

My friends (there are normally very critical of what i do) will say if its ****. I've also told a lot of random people i know online so they wouldn't care if they hurt me, so that answers your question

Using a script that other people can use on there sites isn't going to get you anywhere unless you make some drastic changes to it.
