    Default Anime question

You'll probably all dazzle me with noob comments but, whats the deal with animes? Are they like cartoons but with sort of awesome storylines?
I'm not really sure how to take them to be honest but I'm quite interested in them even though I don't think I've watched one before .

It's basically a cartoon, but a different style and ofc, japanese. They usually do have more 'proper' storylines, and aren't anything like cartoons in the way that it's presented (eg. ******s can't understand some animes)

Anime is a genre of television programmes, movies, music videos and short films among other things. Quite simply it is animation of Japanese origin. I hate it when people compare it to cartoons because it is much, much, much more than that. Unlike cartoons, anime is mostly directed at teenagers and young adults. There is of course anime for children as well, and also anime for adults too. Cartoons tend to be filled with nonsense, anime series, movies, etc actually have stories, and captivating ones at that. It has actually been proven that people who often watch anime are likely to have a higher IQ than those who don't, because it allows you to think more imaginatively. The animation and character design are another two elements of anime that sets it apart from any other medium. You can instantly recognise an anime character, and Japanese animation has advanced so much and so amazingly in such a short time that it's just fascinating. Some anime shows are worth it just for the eye candy. I suggest reading the anime page on wikipedia for the most informative answer on what exactly anime is. Recently it's been spreading around the world like the nothing ever seen before because it's something new, something exicting and something everyone can enjoy (and I really do mean everyone). With every passing day it's on it way to making it into the mainstream. Quite simply anime is my favourite medium of entertainment, because it offers endless amounts of enjoyment, originality, astonishment, intelligence and too many other things to mention...
