Mine have closed a few times torwards the beggining but I just put the earing through again, I guess it stops the healing of the tissue so it doesn't heal back I haven't wore it for months before and it didn't close up

How long does it take for your lip to heal up?

it does take quite a while, and if you knock it (like i did when changing my bar to a ring) it starts the whole healing again.
it hurts when it swells up, because if you knock yr bar when you eat, holy shiiitt it hurts. but it soon stops hurting, you get stuff thats like puss that comes out of it for a while, but as long as you keep it clean (hot water & salt.), they'll heal steadily

what beth fails to mention is that the main reason that she knocked her bar when she ate was because she never went back to get the smaller bars after the swelling went down

for me, mine healed pretty much by the time i got smaller bars, so at about 2 weeks. i didnt get any lynth (which is the puss stuff) till i decided to put rings in about a couple of months later, which then i assume i must've scratched the inside or something

well the piercers say to "heal" completely, which i'm guessing means you can take it out for like a day or so and it wont have closed up when you put it back in, 12 weeks. but the hurting/cleaning goes after about 4?
just be warned if you do change yr bar/ring and knock the piercing, it will start pussing & stuff again, and youll go back basically to square 1.
