    Yeah, I nuked my USB ports also the first time that I installed it, quickly fixed that though.

    I figured I might as well add Vista steps, so that other people don't screw up their USB ports (without reading) then blame me ;P

    I seem to have a problem with step 4. it prepares the ipod for restore then gives me an error

    I'm not sure, it's iTunes, not my software.

    Try a different USB port, make sure the device is in DFU mode. If that doesn't work, restart your computer and try it.
