The cost-effective solution would be to cut the middle-middle-middle-men that the record companies have. They would have unnecessary (and large) wages to pay, and wouldn't need to demand more money than before.

My youtube downloader works without the proxy aslong as i know the link to the youtube video it downloads it even if i can't see it :S

I have Youtube Downloader, it doesn't work if I enter the URL to a video that is blocked in my internet browser, nor if I enter the URL of a US web proxy that loads the page the video is on.

I see why YouTube doesn't want to pay royalties for the UK viewers if they don't get anything out of it.
