American Idol came before X Factor but was created by the same person who created Pop Idol.

Simon Cowell created Britains Got Talent and Americas Got Talent, AGT aired before Britains Got Talent therefore making it first.. still, made by Simon Cowell... and who is "America". The whole of America didn't create it, Simon Cowell did.. he went to America, created AGT and therefore it being Americas Got Talent..

Americas Got Talent aired before Britains Got Talent, so I don't get how it wasn't first?

American Idol aired before X Factor, how did they copy? It's not copying, it's remaking it in a different country.
