    Default Window Wiper sound on plane?

    hi im just wondering what this sound was? when the plane landed it was a airbus when i stood up from below i could hear window wiper sound? it happend on the way there and way back

    I've always thought that was the lights underneath getting cleaned.

    I'm gussing you mean straight away you hear it when you touch down? If so it will be spoiler (speed brake). To help slow the plane down. (I think this is what the sound is)

    Yh, the pilot arms them just as you touch down (Or a moment or two before) so they where probably extending as you landed

    ^^Matt knows his planes though

    its not just as we touchdown it is when you park up and they ask you to get your bags then it happens.

    oh. thats not window wipers haha.

    its the hydraulics of the plane equalizing the pressure in the engines in preparation for when the APU (auxilary power unit) can be turned on. this is so that the pilots can turn off the engines as to save fuel. the APU will supply power for things such as the aircraft lights and air flow

    i heard that sound on alitialia coming back from the ski trip haha sounds like someones sawing through the bottom of the plane.

    haha. i didnt know it at the time, i assumed it was to do with the cargo hold. but i read it on airliners.net a few weeks ago.
