Depends on your runecrafting level, as the altars are in different places. Try going on www.runehq.com and then skill guides, then runecrafting it tells you more about it there

People like Find_out is what makes runescape annoying.
Runecrafting is great for making money, but it's even better for leveling in magic.
You never have to buy a rune again! (apart from ones you can't craft yet, obviously)
jamie5k - you have to do the rune mysteries quest first, and then use the talisman to locate the alters. The easiest place to get rune essences from is the rune shop in Varrock(they teleport you).
