Thanks for the input, which of these do you think is more along the right lines?

Second one. Also the Black Arial archives over the flat blue look horrific. Also that blue on the archive is different from the blue in the rest of the design so its out of place

Thanks for the feedback, the archives being a different colour is probably just a minor optical illusion as aside from the gradient in the banner i only use two blues in the entire design and one of them is so far exclusive to the unactivated tabs.

I'll have a play around with the archives colouring, possibly make em white to fit with the other design elements.

I think you have a point there :p I removed the lot and it looks a lot better right off the bat Also solves the problem of font colours being used on top of it :p
