Yeah after this I am doing something a bit new. No crazy storylines and things that happen to teens these days... teenage lives to me is a bit experimental. I had always planned to chop it and change it and make it a bit 'out there'.

And yes I love cliff hangers.

[Gunshot]

Danny [Narrating]: Limbo. That perpetual indecision between life and death and heaven and hell. Where do you go? What do you do? Pray for guidance? I’ve lived my entire life in limbo, not knowing who to choose or what to choose. A lot has happened to me, I’ve lost and all the time I’ve never wanted to continue. I’ve always felt I was better off dead. Yet somehow, I began to feel a glimmer of hope in my life. A light had come back on. I want to live!

[Danny is on the floor, his eyes opened sharp and he gasps for air and clutches at his stomach. Ed hovers over him shaking]

Danny: Please...

Ed: I warned you, I said I’d do it

Danny: Not like this, please not like this

Ed: It’s about time you got what you deserved

Danny: Please

[Danny sobs and outstretches his bloody hand. His blood surrounds him]

Ed: You don’t deserve forgiveness

[Ed gets in a car and speeds off leaving Danny]

Danny [Narrating]: I have so much more to say

[Jail, Serena is sat with her Lawyer]

Serena: Did you find out

Lawyer: Yes, I did

Serena: Who was it?

Lawyer: I got this information on a matter of trust, do NOT tell anyone how you found out

Serena: I want to know

Lawyer: It was that boy you were with

Serena: Danny?!

Lawyer: No, the other one... the one who caused your little problem

Serena: You mean my baby I was forced to give up? Wait, it was Ed?!

Lawyer: Yes

Serena: Oh my god, you have to get me out of here

Lawyer: The trial is tomorrow

Serena: I don’t care, post bail, someone is in danger

Lawyer: You said you didn’t want to pay it

Serena: DO IT

Lawyer: You’ve missed the slot

Serena: I swear to god you’ll get me out of here right now or I will rip your face off

[Serena starts banging on the desk; an officer comes in and drags her away]

Serena: You have to help me!

[A cell, Serena is thrown in]

Serena: I want my phone call

Officer: Tough

Serena: Please, I just need one call

Officer: Pipe down

Serena: SOMEONE IS IN DANGER! PLEASE!

[A prison. We see Sarah sat in a room, Ed enters and hands some money to the officer who steps outside]

Sarah: Ed, they said it was urgent, is everything OK?

Ed: No

Sarah: What happened?!

Ed: I killed him

Sarah: Who?

Ed: I killed Danny...

Sarah: No..

Ed: I had to get him back

Sarah: For what?

Ed: HE’S TAKEN EVERYTHING FROM ME. YOU, SERENA...

Sarah: Calm down

Ed: I can’t be calm. I always lose everyone

Sarah: What happened wasn’t your fault, you can’t hold onto it

Ed: I lost Mom and Dad and I lost Serena and now i’ve lost you

Sarah: He isn’t to blame, you need to help him

Ed: I won’t do it

Sarah: What happened to Mom and Dad wasn’t Danny’s fault now, was it? It was a long time ago

Ed: He’s ruined everything

Sarah: Ed, you will go to prison because they will find out it’s you

Ed: I wanted to make the pain go away

[A tear runs down Ed’s cheek]

Ed: I feel so empty

Sarah: Killing Danny won’t make that go away, where is he?

Ed: I’m not saying

Sarah: Ed, that boy has gone through a lot as well

Ed: He stole you

Sarah: I shot Serena, that’s why I am here

Ed: I just want everything back to normal

Sarah: You can’t turn back time

Ed: But I can get revenge

Sarah: If you need revenge then look at yourself. What happened to Mom and Dad wasn’t Danny’s fault. It was yours

Ed: Don’t say that!

Sarah: You lit the fire Ed

Ed: I didn’t mean to do it

Sarah: Are you going to be a murderer all over again because this time you won’t have me on your side

Ed: He’s got so much control over you

[Ed storms out]

Sarah: ED!

[Cut to Danny who is slowly losing consciousness. Cut to Sarah talking to an officer]

Sarah: He admitted it to me... he killed him

[Cut to the jail, Serena is with her Lawyer]

Lawyer: I’ve managed to talk to the judge; he’s willing to allow you to post bail

Serena: Good

Lawyer: But your father said he won’t pay it

Serena: What?!

Lawyer: He said you need to learn the consequences of your outbursts and that he cut you off once, he'll do it again

Serena: I need to be out of here, tell Daddy that if he doesn’t let me out
there will be hell to pay

Lawyer: I’ll be sure to pass that on, I’ll see you tomorrow

Serena: Get them to let me make a call

Lawyer: Oh fine, not that it’ll do any good

[Cut to the telephone]

Serena: Mom... it’s me

[Ed is in his car, he is driving fast when a police car comes up behind him. Ed panics and speeds onwards, a car chase ensues]

Officer on Megaphone: This is the Police, pull over!

[Ed looks in his rear view mirror and speeds some more]

Ed: You’re not taking me

[Ed speeds around corners and heads near a bridge, he speeds to a crossing as a woman steps out, he swerves out of the way and plummets over the edge into a quarry. There is a sickening crunch]

[The jail, Serena is at the front desk with her Mum, Barbara]

Barbara: Your father will kill me

Serena: It’s all for a good cause

Barbara: It better be

Serena: Thank you so much, I know i’ve been distant

Barbara: We certainly need to talk

Serena: I love you

[Serena hugs her Mum and runs outside to a cab. Cut to Danny’s flat and Serena runs inside and looks around. She sees his mobile phone and plays a voice message]

Serena: Deserted warehouse... come on...

Private Investigator [On Phone]: Meet me at the usual place? The old airplane development factory.. you know where

Serena: Oh my god

[Serena runs out of the flat. Cut to the prison and Sarah is in her cell]

Officer: Sarah, I am afraid I have bad news. Your brother was in a bad car accident. He’s been rushed to the hospital, it’s critical

Sarah: Oh my god

Officer: The prison warden has given you permission to be escorted to the hospital

Sarah: Oh thank you, let’s go

[They cuff Sarah. Cut to the back of the warehouse. Serena runs towards a body. It’s the private investigator]

Serena: Oh my god... oh my...

[She sees smoke coming from further away and runs over, she sees the car smoking and fans it out of the way. She screams as she sees Danny]

Serena: Oh my god, Danny! Oh my god, please don’t die

[She scoops him up in her arms]

Serena: Don’t leave me, please don’t leave me

[She takes her phone out of her pocket and dials 911]

Serena: I need an ambulance, he doesn’t have a pulse...

[Her tears echo as there are several different shots. They show doctors working on Ed. A flash cuts to Danny being wheeled in, surrounded by doctors and a terrified Serena. The next shot shows Sarah arriving. Serena walks over to her]

Serena: What are you doing here?!

Sarah: Ed’s been in an accident

Serena: He shot Danny!

Sarah: Is he OK?

Serena: HE GOT SHOT, SARAH

Sarah: It’s not like it hasn’t happened before... he’ll pull through

Serena: No, no he won’t because your brother left him lying in his own blood. He’s BLUE. He felt so cold... because your brother and your family are PSYCHO

[Serena lunges at Sarah but the officers pull her back. The next shots are doctors working on someone. The monitor flatlines. They try to revive but with no luck. A doctor throws off her gloves and walks out to Serena and Sarah]

Doctor: I’m so sorry, we did everything we can but the injuries were too extensive... He’s dead

[End]

It may seem a bit OTT with the shooting and the flashbacks but it's all heading somewhere amazing.

Sarah: No!

Doctor: I am so sorry

Serena: Where is Danny?

[A nurse opens the door]

Nurse: He’s in here

[Serena rushes in as Sarah breaks down in the background. Danny is on a monitor, there is a Doctor next to him]

Doctor: You must be the next of kin

Serena: Yes, I am. How is he?

Doctor: We think he’ll pull through and recover from these injuries. The bullet was so close to him it didn’t travel and instead got caught in tissue, he’s very lucky

Serena: Yeah, he is

Doctor: I am afraid I have bad news, however

Serena: What?

Doctor: Why don’t you come to my office, I’ll explain there

[They walk out, shots of the hospital corridors show]

Serena [Voice Over]: It’s funny, those little moments in life can change so much. The ‘I’m sorry’s that make everything OK again, the ‘I’m pregnant’s that make a couple into a family. Those little moments that captivate us, motivate us, change us. Some of us have bigger moments and my life hasn’t been easy but compared to Danny...

[Danny’s heart monitor bleeps]

Serena [Voice Over]: He’s a survivor, a true survivor. He’ll fight anything. He’s lost everything and everyone he ever truly loved. He’s been stabbed, shot, battered and left for dead. Everyone at some point as betrayed him and yet he gets this thirst for life. This need to rejuvenate himself. I envy him, I really do. I’m a quitter, always have been... but Danny is something else.

[Doctor’s office, a tear runs down Serena’s cheek as the doctor consoles her. She runs out and as the door pushes open, we see Serena push open a bar door and she’s drunk]

Serena: Who’s going to buy me a drink?!

[She stumbles over to the bar as a lad walks over]

Serena: You’ll buy me a drink, won’t you?

[She falls on him]

Lad: Maybe you should go home?

Serena: You’re not my Daddy!

[She stumbles]

Serena: My Daddy wouldn’t care

[A man comes over, he is dressed in a suit]

Man: I’m afraid i’m going to have to ask you to leave

Serena: Do you know who I am?!

[Serena vomits in her mouth]

Man: You’re clearly extremely intoxicated; let me call you a cab?

Serena: Oh get off, perv

[Serena pushes the man but falls backwards and lands hard on the floor. She holds her head]

Serena: I’m fine! I am fine...

[She stumbles out the bar and onto the street. It is pouring with rain and her heel breaks]

Serena: Ow!

[People look and laugh as they walk past]

Serena: Laugh it up! Yeah, poor little rich girl... world at her feet... I have NOTHING

[She climbs back to her feet and limps off past a homeless man. She walks drunkenly into the park where she shot Danny and drops to the ground]

Serena: He loves me, not like I want him to but he does

[She strokes the spot on the ground]

Serena: The things I did... he just wanted to protect me and I BLEW IT. The lies... what is my life? He came along and changed it all for the good and I just took it for granted. Nearly killed him twice

[She burps]

Serena: You don’t deserve this, you don’t deserve me. You’re kind...
[She strokes the ground some more and begins to cry and the rain soaks her. She lies down on the pavement]

Serena: You don’t deserve this

[Daylight, Serena is asleep in her bed. She opens her eyes and sees her mother at the foot of the bed. She has stitches above her eye]

Serena: Where am I?

Barbara: You’re at home

Serena: How did I..?

Barbara: Had another one of your funny turns, I got a call from a family friend. I didn’t know what to say

Serena: I’m sorry

Barbara: You were doing so well

Serena: Something happened

Barbara: Something always happens with you, Serena. Your father can blame Danny all he likes, it’s always been you

Serena: I could really do without the resentment, Ma

Barbara: I don’t care. I am still your mother. You are still a teenager but yet I let you wonder off because I trust you... well, I trusted you

Serena: You didn’t want me around anyway

Barbara: How on earth can you say that?

Serena: You didn’t want my child around

Barbara: For the last time, I thought it was the best thing. Look at you, you can’t even look after yourself

Serena: It wasn’t your choice

Barbara: Somebody had to step in! It’s becoming farcical now, Serena. How long can you live like this? How long can you go on pressing the self destruct button

Serena: Don’t analyse me

Barbara: It doesn’t take Freud to know you need help

Serena: What this time? Rehab? Going to cut me off?

Barbara: I’m going to make you get real

Serena: Wow, really, you’ve gone soft

Barbara: Don’t mock me! You have responsibilities now, Serena

Serena: How did you?

Barbara: You owe it to that boy, to be there

Serena: How..

Barbara: It doesn’t matter how, either way you have to face up to it

Serena: How?! It’s so difficult

Barbara: I spoke with the Doctors. He should be awake today, talk to him and tell him you’ll be there because that is what he needs, not a drunken mess

Serena: It’s easier said than done

Barbara: That’s life! You need to wake up because it is a cruel world out there and it is getting crueller. There are people everywhere suffering, not knowing where their next meal is coming from...

Serena: I don’t need the ‘you’re so privileged’ talk

Barbara: Serena, don’t you see? It isn’t about making you value money it is about making you value life. Look at what is happening to you, all around you, open your eyes

Serena: I don’t think I can handle this

Barbara: You don’t know what you can handle until you try

Serena: This is huge

Barbara: I know but remember this, you will ALWAYS have your mother

Serena: Thank you

[Serena hugs her Mum]

Barbara: Now get showered and dressed, you smell like the homeless

[Serena laughs and goes into the bathroom. Cut the hospital. She walks through the corridor. Slow motion. She takes a deep breath in and enters Danny’s room. He is sat up]

Danny: I take it this upgrade is courtesy of you

Serena: My mother actually

Danny: Your mother paying to help me? Cold day in hell...

[Serena laughs]

Serena: I’m glad you’re feeling better

Danny: Yeah, I feel so alive

Serena: Good... it’s good you’ve got some fight in you

Danny: What’s wrong?

Serena: Nothing, why?

Danny: You look really uncomfortable. Don’t tell me, you ripped your Gucci bag?

[Danny wheezes as he laughs]

Serena: Danny...

[Serena pulls up a chair]

Danny: You’re scaring me now

Serena: I spoke to your doctor and we agreed it’d be best coming from me

Danny: What?

Serena: When they were working on you they found a mole on your shoulder

Danny: Yeah, it was a freckle

Serena: Well, the Doctor decided it’d be a good idea to get it checked so he took a biopsy of it

Danny: A biopsy? You mean?

[Serena fights back tears]

Serena: I’m so sorry Danny

Danny: I...

Serena: They’re going to make you fight, chemo... all the best drugs

Danny: This isn’t happening... no, I feel alive again

Serena: I’m so sorry

Danny: How bad is it?

Serena: I’m so...

Danny: Tell me

Serena: It’s stage 4

Danny: Stage 4? Is that bad? How bad?

[Serena breaks down crying]

Danny: Oh my god, I’m going to Die

Serena: Danny...

Danny: I don’t want to die! Please...

[Danny sobs as Serena rests her head on his arm, whispering]

Serena: I’m so sorry
