Banksy is a no good graffiti artist, yet his works have been known to sell for more than Picasso paintings (thousands and thousands of pounds for those of you who need that extra inch of simplicity)
Actually I can back up what I said because my family have worked in the music business for many years. You have given a stereotypical view of what the music industry is supposed to be like with very little actual knowledge of it. Creative people have an urge to follow the path - its not all about money. Its about the need to fulfill their creativity. Lots of things in life are high risk but if they took your advice nobody would take the chance to develop their creativity. Some people who follow that path make a really good living and others do go on to great wealth. A higher than average failure rate is not
a reason for somebody not to give it a try. Whats the worst that can happen? He could be an accomplished musician and songwriter, maybe. Thats open lots of doors in his own right from teaching/lecturing in music to
making a very good living in a covers band if all else failed.
