There isn't one When people sign up they just put your name in the 'Referrer' section!

Sorry I didn't see that announcement! In that case that's a ridiculous ruling. If referral links are banned to stop the forum being spammed up by threads advertising those sorts of sites, what's wrong with having it in your signature where every other form of advertising is allowed?

If people want money they should go get a job, not spam the forums with crappy referal links. There annoying and for the most part totally pointless. There essentially just e-pyramid schemes.

I full support them being disallowed.

In that case can we also ban "For sale" threads where they simply just link to items they've posted on eBay or try to sell it through the forum on Paypal. The threads provoke no discussion at all, and frankly I don't use this forum to do my weekly shop, neither does anyone else. They just spam up the forum in much the same way referal links do and there's no real advantage to them being there.

Particularly in the Technology Discussion and Console Gaming Forums they're riddled with them and often there's accusations of scamming which also causes hostility between members.

I believe a notable exception to this rule would be the web design section where there is dedicated sub-forums to the sale of things.

I'll admit I'm having a brain lapse with all the late nights so I can't remember exactly why we did but I remember that referrals threads were causing a lot of problems.

Among them were the spamming of referrals thread, also things like urlcash or whatever on the beginning of links in an effort to mooch off of clicks (which is just irritating) along with hidden referral links, etc.
It costs nothing to be a good friend.

I also use the account nvrspk on other computers.
