It basically allows you to say "This domain/subdomain is a alias of this domain". If you setup foo.test.com as a CNAME of bar.test.com then foo.test.com would use the same DNS records of bar.test.com.
Why the hell even post then? You'll be able to find out what it is by just reading this thread when it gets a reply.
