IB Programme

I've been thinking about attending IB. Any experiences? Anyone currently attending an IB school? I have the grades for it, do you guys think the Diploma has any meaning and is worth all the extra work?

I did the IB program.. Graduated from it 2 years ago. I'm not sure how well valued it is in the UK but I can tell you about my experiences with it in the US. I personally actually regretted it. It prepared me REALLY well for University, but the problem was that in America the majority of universities here give a lot more credit for AP classes instead of IB, so I always regretted not doing AP instead. Other than that though, I didn't mind it. If you think you can handle it, I recommend doing it since it is really good prep for Uni. Be careful about what you choose to take as your HL's when you're in the last two years of the program, since some are a lot harder than others, though it may range from school to school depending on your teacher. I did HL Math, HL Physics, HL English, and HL History of the Americas and my 4, and then SL Biology, and SL French. Math and Physics were definitely rough.. I've heard HL Psych for example is pretty easy, though?

They do it at my college and i would have done it if i was a year younger:

benefits:

-do alot more lessons and be able to specialise later at university
-world-recognised diploma preferred by many universities around the world

cons:

-alot of work
-don't learn as in-depth as in A2
-sometimes if the college is new in teaching IB, results might be low.

Yea, IB is really hard but I've heard it's really worth it. A lot of people I ask complain about the workloads and deadlines, but I never have any problems getting things done in time - so why should that change? I'm pretty certain I'm going to try to get in now, there is an entrance exam but my teacher (who attended & taught in the IB) said he will help me get the required score. First year is Pre-DP so that should give me some time to figure out which classes suit me best. I went to visit the school a few weeks ago and we got to join the SL Physics, HL Math & HL Chemistry classes.

Right now, before knowing what each class is like my list of choices looks like this: English SL, French SL, Economics SL, Chemistry HL, Physics HL & Math HL

If you can manage your time well and get all the deadlines done you should be fine Because honestly the only times I really got overloaded was when I procrastinated on stuff. Oh and I used to go on this forum called ibscrewed.net though I just checked and it looks like it shut down, but there's also this forum called ibsurvival.com which you might wanna check out. I'm sure people on there would give you good advice about the program if you ask around.

I go to a school that has the option of IB, although i don't take IB. Tbh ive heard it helps abit and stuff but i dont think it makes like a HUGE HUGE HUGE difference.

Also on a side note most of the IB kids in my school are only friends with the IB kids which is a small group of people, so i think it would suck to be limited to that.

At the school I'm thinking about going to there are 600 students, 150 of which are attending IB. We had a substitute teacher a few weeks ago that graduated from IB last year and he did say IB and national line students don't socialize much. Thanks for the links Cyndia.
