    Exactly. I think we're the same age and my parents didn't have to discipline me very often but if I was being totally out of line then yes I got a little slap on the back of my leg. I don't have any violent tendencies whatsoever and as far as i'm aware bear no mental scars as a result of this. So yeah, if my child was in hysterics or was being a spoilt brat then I may be inclined to give it a tap to snap out of it.

    or grounding when they get older

    no not even to discipline them i would just take things they really like off them for a set amount of time- it has more effect
