The problem with deleting user names who have posts is that their post then become "guest" posts which look terribly untidy. I know they're normally in quite old threads but nevertheless it is still somewhat undesirable.

add a symbol to the name, such as # or $, it depends what mood your in really

I don't think there's a function for mass name changes and I don't fancy editing a couple of thousand users names.
