I'v heard good things about the gum. I guess the best way would be to get in touch with those quit smoking campaigns the NHS does, but saying that, everyones different, just find what works for you.

My Great Uncle had been a big smoker for a very long time. About a year ago though he decided to get a nicorette (plastic, fake cigerette) which gives you the nicotine minus the tar. He's now kicked the habit and doesn't even use it

Like sharon said, it's not as easy as that, they make you want to buy more. Even if you got rid of all your packets and hide all your money, you still won't be able to resist smoking. The best way is probably to count how many you smoke a day, then reduce it every day or week, depends how long you've been smoking for. My dad has been smoking since he was 13 which is bad, but he did that for three months last year by the time it was christmas he had one a day. After new year he just stopped. If he thinks he's needs a drag or something he uses chewing gum and does a task like going on facebook on mafia wars or something to keep your mind busy from it.

What if you got pressured into smoking it by someone older?

Shouldn't feel pressured and whoever does press smoking on someone is a complete nonce.
