Monitor's gone dodgy

Riiight so not sure what's happened, last night everything was fine the picture was perfect then today I turn on the PC and the monitor has a few horizontal lines flicking down like when a TV has bad reception. Didn't mind that TOO much but now it's very much grainy and it's also causing my speakers to make a horrific noise (having the speakers on with the monitor off they seem fine, so it has to be something to do with the display somehow I'm guessing) so it seems I need some help from you kind tech folks

As far as I'm aware it's not a driver problem because having had loads of fun looking through every single driver on the system just in case, it appears that they're all working fine, or at least they think so. That said I'm fairly sure it has to be something to do with the PC rather than the screen itself, because it works absolutely fine as a TV - it's only on PC-RGB mode that it decides not to play nice. Also raising the refresh rate make no discernable difference whatsoever which is the only advice I've seen so far...

Have you tried resinstalling your drivers? Have you installed anything last night or ran any programs that are new?

Seems like a graphic card problem, whats your graphics card?

Try plugging it into a different machine by DVI or VGA or whatever you use. Dodgey stuff on a monitor can be hardware graphics failure.

Don't think it's stuck pixels because it flashes around constantly (a bit like static or interference on an old TV or something I guess) but that was a fun video all the same. Got the feeling I'm gonna have to buy a new cable or something with all the money I don't have.

Currently got NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 405 and says all drivers are fine and updated. No new programs but I'll have a look through and check that anyway, and yeah I'll have a go plugging it in on the downstairs PC as you never know

Perhaps you've damaged the cable.

Do you have an old CTR monitor or an LCD?

Try it on another computer and if it's fine then it's most likely a graphics issue. Try a system restore to check whether it's the drivers, otherwise the card might be bust. Sounds like the sort of thing that happens when the graphics memory's had it.

Strange that it effects your speakers though :S.


Edit: Your graphics is integrated to the motherboard, so it's potentially an issue with your motherboard.

Need to spread before repping Nick and Matt but thanks to all of you, I switched around a few cables and such to test it and thankfully it was just the VGA cable going from the PC to the monitor it seems. Speakers are still buzzing loads whenever the monitor's on but tbh that could just be because they're about 15 years old and decided to give up...
