    Default Spam Rules

I cannot remember if it was in the rules before, but the new rule thread posted by Oli today states:

~ You must not advertise any websites in the spam forum
Yes we have a 'Show Off Your Websites' section but I just think this rule is silly. On one hand you say you want to be more lenient, on the other you make silly rules such as above.

We have always been allowed to advertise sites in spam, why suddenly change it?

People have been putting websites there for a while, it was never removed. I personally think it's just a silly rule and doesn't need to be there.

If its been in the rules, then it seems moderators chose to ignore the rule and let us do it - and so have past admins. I have done it several times and never been warned. I think the rule should be removed. Its Spam, don't be strict. Yes, don't allow mass spamming of sites, but not allowing it at all isn't fair at all.

I've not seen it be ignored in my time in the department, we are talking about blatent advertisment here by the way - people simply trying to channel traffic to their sites or their friends sites or whatever.

Secondly, the rule was made by Seacat when the forum was stricter. I thought the new management were aiming to be lenient? There is no harm in doing so. The rule was probs made for mass spamming and people being silly. I have posted links to my site there before, never been warned as no moderator has ever really saw it as a problem.

It's not going to change as there's no need to use spam to advertise websites - we have a specific forum for it.

That I think is a ******ed rule. We are saying "hey its already been posted here: link" or "Its the wrong forum, its better suited here: link" is helping the member and most times the member is quicker than the mod. If someone says it nicely, should be allowed but if its said harshly, it shouldn't be allowed.
