I said pathetice because people often use stupid as a joke so when it's used properly I don't think it comes across so spiteful. People don't really use the word 'pathetic' unless they really mean it.

The word "pathetic" originated from words surrounding sympathy. Hence, sympathetic. Sadly, the word has gone on to mean something completely different now.

The word "stupid" has lost it's edge. At one point in time, I'm sure it was quite the insult yet now - it seems like a joke! Therefore, I'd probably be more offended by being called pathetic.

I have a feeling that if the OP offered some more background information here as to why he's asking us this, I'd be inclined to respond to this thread with an entirely different perspective. Can we get the whole story here?
