Has anybody else heard about this? It was in my local newspaper yesterday. After describing what EMA was it then went on and said:
Do they not realise that cutting EMA puts even more pressure on family's with a low income? However, a bonus element worth up to £300 per year to each student has now been scrapped and colleges are told the EMAs are only guaranteed until December. The Scottish Funding Council, which distributes public money to universities and colleges explained, "The change to the economic climate has led to more young people staying in learning over the past year. This had led to a significant increase in the demand for EMAs. The Scottish Government anticipates a similar level of demand in the next coming academic year." With no extra money available, ministers have decided to cut the bonus payments to help cope with the added pressure on the £31m EMA budget.
