    Default Account and Computer Safety

    Hi Habboxers!

Recently it has been brought to our attention that a number of members of Habbox staff and forum members have been struck by malicious software under the guise of virus protection. Right now we are not aware of the source and are working extremely hard to try and identify where this is coming from so we can ensure this does not affect any more of our members.

After speaking with those affected we have clarified that you do not necessarily have to download or run an executable file or similar. This makes the virus very easy to get, whilst being extremely difficult to remove. As we are unsure of the details surrounding the virus, I will recommend the core safety principles in regard to computer use.

For now, please do not panic and do not let it put you off using Habbox or HxF. We are confident that this virus is not inherently part of Habbox and the root of the problem will be found in the near future.

    We will keep you updated.

    What you can do:

Notes: Read the other replies to this thread for additional help.

We are now quite confident the virus does not come from Habbox, please ensure you follow the safety steps mentioned above and it will prevent you getting the virus from any source.

Following some recent information coming to light about a flaw in Windows we strongly reccommend if you use the Windows OS (that's any version, XP, Vista, 7 or other) that you ensure your system is fully up to date and that updates are installed automatically.

You can see how to do this here:

Furthermore, should you believe you are affected by the virus described above, please let us know.

    Default Method Of Removing

This is one of the ways of removing the virus.

    1. Turn off the computer.

    2. Turn on the computer but KEEP PRESSING the F8 key so you will get "Advance Boot Options".

    3. Boot into: "Safe mode with networking"

    4. Go to your "BROWSER" Options and do the following:

IE: Tools > Internet Options > "Connections Tab" > LAN Settings > Tick: Automatically detect settings & Untick: Use a proxy server for your LAN & Bypass Proxy server for local addresses.

Firefox: Tools > Options > Advanced Panel > Network Tab > In the "Connection Section" > Click "Settings".

If you don't connect to the Internet through a proxy or aren't sure whether you do. Select "No Proxy"

Google Chrome: Spanner Icon > Options > Under the Bonnet > Change Poxy Settings > LAN Setting (Connections Tab) > Tick: Automatically detect settings > Untick: Use a proxy server for your LAN & Bypass Proxy server for local addresses.

    5. Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php)

    6. Full Scan.
