Richards isn't like Johnson. If you're looking for someone whose calm on the ball and can pass then you want Johnson, if you want someone who can stand off a man and hug them then you want Richards.

he's not that bad and he'll learn. The alternative is Carra or Brown who are both getting on, so i'd rather have Johnson and train him up for the long term rather than leave him behind and play the old guard which really doesn't make Glen better or have a positive impact on the team. Brown is also always injured :-)
Yeah I know he isn't, but Richards has all the tools to be a good player but he needs to work on a lot of his game. He needed to move away from City and play every game but he can't do that now which is a shame.
I think hes okay, pretty decent to be fair.
Thought i would visit..
Gary Neville would be better.
Johnson can't defend and yet he's a defender. Defenders need to be able to defend believe it or not.
I said it throughout the world cup and I will say it yet again! Johnson, Lennon and Walcott's most important and deadly aspect to their game (imo) is their pace. If they want to utilise it effectively they need to be fed the ball early by the RB. At the world cup whoever was playing on the right hand side of midfield would be standing in acres of space screaming for the ball but Johnson's priority seems to be running as far as he can with it (as the space the winger in front of him has diminishes). If Johnson plays the person on the right gets forced inside because he goes too far with the ball which pretty much cancels out and reduces the opportunity for wingers to beat and run at defenders. He wasn't that bad. What might be good for England and him is if we play Walcott and AJ on the wings and switch them so Walcott is left and vice versa. That way Johnson can overlap.
But we'll need a proper DM for it to work properly and Barry isn't a proper DM, at least not for England. The sooner Rodwell gets involved the better.
I don't know if it's a case of getting the balace between defending/attacking right but he needs to learn from Ashley Cole.

I agree, but it doesn't make him a terrible player like people are saying. He just needs to adapt and learn.I said it throughout the world cup and I will say it yet again! He's not terrible he just doesn't suit the way England play football. He will only work if we play a narrow formation with no wide players ahead of him (which would be silly because we have quality wide men). An unselfish right back is needed.
