Default John Cage's 4'33 for Christmas Number One?

Like last year, people are trying to go against the X Factor once again but with John Cage's 4'33, basically a song with 4.33 minutes of silence with a few coughs.

The UK singles chart could see another anti-X Factor challenge for the Christmas number one, according to reports.
MTV has claimed that a1952 track by American artist John Cage could be this year's answer to 2009 number one single Killing in the Name by Rage Against the Machine.
The Rage Against the Machine kept Joe McElderry's X Factor winner's song The Climb off the top spot.
The song adopted by Facebook group Cage Against the Machine is [I]4'33'', which is purely four minutes, thirty-three seconds of silence.
[I]Last year, big names like Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl and Muse were among the nearly one million people who supported Killing in the Name.
The track ended the longtime stranglehold the X Factor has had on the festive number one slot.
Nearly 30,000 people have signed up to the campaign which aims to get the experimental composer silent piece in the Christmas top spot.
It reads on the page: "'On the week beginning December 13th, the usual chart battle for Christmas number one begins ... let's make it a silent night on Radio 1."

I think this is stupid, no way this will get number one? Oh and the Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/cageagainstthemachine

I do think it has the potential to be Christmas number one.
All that needs to happen is for the media to get involved; there will be a big hype about it and it will reach the top spot.

I do think that 4'33 is brilliant. It really just challenges what we call "music" and I think it would be really cool if it was No. 1.

i wouldnt doubt the almighty POWER OF FACEBOOK tbh it has a chance.

i think that anyone that genuinely enjoys this "piece" is absolutely insane and anyone that really likes it is insane. theres calling things artistic and creative and meaningful when youre just looking in way too deep, but this is just on a new absurd level. it doesnt 'challenge what we call music', thats crazy, there is music, then theres four and a half minutes of silence.

i mean please, someone tell me this is a joke

but on it being number one, it would be better than whatever crap they churn out of the x factor this year. im not sure what the original idea behind it was, but i like the concept of it being a "silent night". and also theres a charity they are helping raise money for, which helps deaf children i think so there was something said about us hearing the same christmas number one that they do which i also like.

Lol, I can remember briefly doing about this in music.
It was just one of those one off things which change the way people think about music.. and was also those on off things which if attempted now, would not work.

But this thing about christmas number one, get over it. X Factor release music for christmas, so they gain the right to win christmas number one. If another band released a song for christmas then they would be in just the same right to get christmas number one. People buy the album/song of their choice, so if X Factor is what they want at christmas, then it's their choice
Plus if you think, the RATM campaign started a lot earlier and had a lot more people who knew about it by now. But only time will tell....

This whole thing is just as STUPID as the whole X Factor thing. None of the songs the X Factor or who ever creates these groups are actual Christmas songs. Shouldn't people instead, I don't know actually get a CHRISTMAS song in at number one at Christmas? I think that would make more of a statement about it rather than just trying to stand up to Simon Cowell.

I wish an actual Christmas song would get Christmas No. 1 for once. The last time that happened was something like 2004.
