    For my ICT course we've to design a website within Dreamweaver. I've got a background pattern I'd like to use although I'd also like a solid colour to place text upon. Is it possible to have a background pattern on the left and right sides while having a large solid colour in the middle part of the page? If so please explain.
    Here is an example picture. The left and right is where the pattern would go and the middle is where the content would go.

    Do you mean you want a background pattern in the darker grey areas, with a solid colour in the lighter area?
    If so, set the <body> background image to the pattern you want with css:
    Code:
    body
    {
        background-image: url('path_to_pattern');
    }
    Then add in a <div id="mainContainer"> with either a fixed with or a percentage width, use margins to centre it and set your background colour:
    Code:
    #mainContainer
    {
        width: 800px;
        margin-left: auto;
        margin-right: auto;
        background-color: #CCC;
    }
    I'm pretty sure that would work, not played with html and css for a while though so I may have missed something out.
