Yeah exactly. I use my phone like this (Wifi tethering on Windows Phone) so I can use my iPod and laptop anywhere but it's a real drain on battery life and Vodafone's unlimited internet is rly about 500MBs. One lunch time at college I had 7 iPod Touch's connect, a few people watching YouTube vids and downloading stuff from iTunes and Vodafone hurriedly informed me I was about to use my 500MBs :/

I can already turn my Nexus One into a wifi access point. If this had better battery life I would consider it because I do have an Unlimited Data plan and an iPad which could use the internet (it's 3G less).
I'm not crazy, ask my toaster.

Personally no because I've never had the need to notice it sooner. Only since I've purchases a smartphone, and an iPad was when it's really caught my attention and since portable devices of this variety are getting more popular each day I think it's certainly cause in the increase in attention of tethering devices.
