Default Deep Red 2 Disc Edition

I've only seen it once but lately I've been getting into the Italian director Dario Argento, often cited as the Italian Hitchcock. Just bought the two disc version of deep red along with poster and booklet.

Like quite a few of his films it is a Giallo, which simply translates to Yellow, as apparently a lot of crime/mystery books where at one point usually published with Yellow front covers.

From what I've seen I think Dario Aregento is an extremely talented director. I recommend horror fans check out his film Suspiria which got me into him. It really looks and feels like a nightmare, a very colourful horror. Its one of the films that really sums up horror to me.

It's nothing really like today's horror films though.

Unfortunately I doubt if anyone here knows of Argento, except maybe Neversoft.

He is one of my all-time favourite directors. Suspiria is sensational, as is Profondo Rosso (Deep Red), which is my favourite Argento. Did you buy the new Blu-ray from Arrow? They're the absolute best in cult home video releases. I have a review copy of it coming and I can't wait to see it in HD for the first time.

Make sure you check out his other gialli, such as Tenebrae and The Bird with the Crystal Plumage especially. Also check out Inferno, the second part of his Three Mothers trilogy, of which Suspiria was the first. The final film, Mother of Tears, is only worth watching for closure - it's not very good. And NEVER watch Giallo. It's HORRIBLE.

Saw the Bird with the Crystal Plumage a while back and for a first film found it pretty decent. Also really enjoyed Cat O' Nine Tails which apparently he considers to be his worst film.

I got the normal one, I still need to buy a HD TV soon ha as I've been wanting to replace mine for a while but always found the quality decentish. Also don't have a Blu Ray player, been reluctant to get one as my collection is all on DVD but maybe sometime.

But yeah from what I have seen its no big surprise that he's one of the biggest influential directors out there. While I hate the series (although found the first one decent), Saw and many other modern day films wouldn't be around or like they where if it wasn't for him.

There's really no comparison between DVD and Blu-ray. I'd start slowly upgrading your favourite films.

The Cat O'Nine Tails is good. I wouldn't agree that it's his worst and I'm sure he said that before Giallo. Argento has walked away claiming that the producers made a different film to him in the edit, and it's actually illegal to sell in the States because Adrien Brody was never paid enough for his role, so until he does it's against the law for it to be distributed.

Also check out Phenomena and Opera. His career really soured in the '90s and he hasn't come back from the slump, which is a shame.

I love Saw, but the sequels are, for the most part, dire. The Abominable Dr. Phibes was no doubt the biggest inspiration on the original film, but indeed James Wan is a big Argento fan.

Yeah well apparently the puppet was influenced highly from the pupped thing in Deep Red.

Also Blu Ray is decent but at the moment I've got lots of stuff to fund but slowly at some point when I can I'll probably start.

My only annoyance is that once I've got there, we will probably end up with a new type and have to replace everything again
