Ohh, thats explains why I was able to find a few 'rare' names starting with letters at the beginning of the alphabet then. Do you know what requirements have to be met for a taken name to be removed and made available?

Not on high scores and no rare items on account. Most inactive names will become available, just add the name you want to your ignore list and when it disappears you'll know that it's been removed.
