They do get given a script but I think John Cena said in a recent interview that most of the time they have to improvise.

I've read a number of scripts for RAW. They do tell them exactly what to say. However, I'm sure the likes of John Cena are given room to improvise.

Yes, as Misawa said above, it is all scripted, set by the writers, but I'm sure they come up with some things on their own

Actually they have writers and a script to follow these days.
They have writers for storylines, they don't have script writers, they have always made up there own words, come promo's.

Maybe for the low card guys, but for main event guys, they do their own.

No, everyone is given their own promo lines to learn. I have seen it with my own eyes. In the old days writers in pro wrestling simply didn't exist, but the landscape is very different now in both WWE and TNA.

That there is an outline of the show. Whats next, what there gonna say, whats happening. I've been a professional wrestler myself for many many years now & my dad has a mate that works for WWE. They only make storylines and tell them what there promo will be about, but they don't actually write the script for there promo's.

Whatever you say. That is a SCRIPT written by the WWE CREATIVE WRITERS. "My dad has a mate that works for WWE". How old are you, 12? I write about wrestling for a living and have done for years. The WWE began scripting promos in the Attitude Era. Vince Russo is one of the catalysts for pro wrestling following scripts. WWE now hires former Hollywood writers to pen their shows and promos and you can even see this my looking at job vacancies on WWE's corporate website. Freddie Prinze Jr. was hired as a writer. The Great Khali's manager? That's another writer.

Independent promotions don't use writers, they do it the old school way. TNA however followed on from WWE and has a creative team lead by Vince Russo. The more proper name for a pro wrestling script is a format, and the ring announcers and commentators keep a copy with them on live TV.

Lol relax kids... I myself have done a bit of wrestling and also kickboxing.
In the past, I asked nodq.com if what they say is scripted, and they confirmed it is. However, they do come up with some of their own stuff, but MAJORITY of it is done from the writers.

"The answer to when WWF changed to WWE"? What are you even referring to, the World Wildlife Fund's lawsuit?

Russo has never been "almost fired" from TNA.

NoDQ.com? An online dirt sheet. Yay. Full of rumours and falsities. No one with credibility would read that.

You don't have a clue about professional wrestling, so please stop trying to act like you do. Clearly you've been a professional wrestler "for many, many years", yet play a game for 12-year-olds and DJ on a website that gets about 7 listeners? OK. If you're really a wrestler and you do indeed work shows in Australia in front of embarrassingly small crowds, then the backstage folks at whatever promotions you work for in the minor leagues wouldn't use writers. LIke I said, writers are exclusive to WWE and TNA. I've shown you an official leaked format. Why don't you go and watch the show from then and see how closely the script is followed? It's dialogue in a script. I'm a screenwriter, I think I know a script when I see it. Christ. Admit when you're wrong.

@Chris - you asked NoDQ.com? All their info is third party and nicked from the likes of Dave Meltzer.
