basically what you said is right, but no one was "fired". there's still a few pieces of the puzzle missing, no one really knew exactly what happened but there were 3 days of shooting, the first involved gaga and dancers etc and a big production that we would expect from her, directed by kahn. then day 2 of filming she sent all her dancers home, kahn left (whether he disagreed and stormed off, was fired, or was politely told he wasn't needed anymore we don't know), scrapped the big production and filmed the video that we now have on her own with clarence clemons (the saxophonist), and day 3 was scrapped.

no one knows why gaga decided it would be better to release this simple video instead of the big budget one that was planned, but she and the haus of gaga directed it and it was edited by them and people at the label.

kind of a messy situation. and in the end i was pretty underwhelmed with the video, but i do really like it for what it is, i think it's a nice tribute to her grandfather (kissing the ground), and NYC. when you take away what it could have looked like it and all the disappointment that comes with that it's not THAT bad. it's just because it's so different of what everyone would expect from lady gaga.
You're partially right. GaGa wanted to change some of Kahn's ideas for the video, so asked if she could co-direct and therefore have more input. Keeping the story short; Kahn said no and was released from the project, leaving GaGa with one day to direct the video herself.

Here's an indirect tweet from Joseph Kahn (@josephkahn) on the matter:
"No, I don't co-direct. One canvas, one paintbrush. Respect the art. Very simple rule with me."

I thought she looked like a weird power ranger when she was looking out of the window at the start - it's a good video though!

I have to admit, i do like it but obviously it's not the best video for obvious reasons. On the Paul O Grady show when she performed this song, the dance for it seems really cool and it would of made the video better, though very different feel. Go to 3.25 for the dance bit

We've all learnt a lesson here. Gaga stick to singing yh.

The song is my favorite and this video is totally the opposite. The problem is with gaga her videos get more creative/better/w.e and so we except more from her each time. Then she comes out with this and we are all disgusted with her tack. However, to be fair, If i created this video for my media cwk, I would probs get a D at best. She's not even a good dancing in this aswell lol. It would have been better if she did an emotional video for her granddad.
