I know that with Orange (because they are the same company) you can roam on T-Mobile.

I used Vodafone a few years ago and their reception was absolutely terrible. It constantly would go out of coverage. I also found their customer services team rude and unpleasant. That was when you actually reached them.

I'd say have a look at going with T-Mobile you can't fault them. They are professional and you can get good rewards with them. I've been with them for quite a few years and I can't see myself going anywhere else.

Vodafone has terrible coverage, no great plans or bonuses (I know they're starting to improve on this, but they still don't have a great reputation), and is really expensive if travelling abroad IMO. However, I don't know much iPhone-specific stuff from Vodafone.

Orange is still quite expensive but has a lot of benefits and bonsues - Orange Wednesdays, Bonus bundles, bright top-ups. And their iPhone plans are actually not bad value for money, from what I've heard (I'm on PAYG). Also, if you go on holiday, texts cost what they do in the UK, if you're in Europe. Just a little interesting fact.

Vodafone:
Vodafone Passport, connection charge of £0.75 and you run off your minutes in your contracted bundle. They also offer "+EU" to their tariff, which allows you to use 25MB a day in most EU countries, 5mb everywhere else (apart from some places... like antartica!), best 2G coverage of the UK. if you go over your internet allowances, you're automatically charged £5 and given 500MB, better than any other network offers.

downsides: their billing is per minute, ie use 10 secs and it rounds up to 1 minute. they're expensive, £1 more expensive than orange on ALL tariffs (ie £35 on orange is £36 on vodafone)

Orange:
Orange wednesdays giving you 2-4-1 pizza express and cinemas, of which 96% of the UK cinema's have opted in! magic numbers: choose one orange contact for free unlimited calls, every six months pick a new one (limited to six), best 3G coverage of the UK, voted best provider of 2010, most customers in the UK than anyone else (if you count everything everywhere), per second billing, more tariffs than anyone else (with animal tariffs or extra tariffs).

downsides:
a lot of foreign help, meaning you need to request to speak to a UK based customer agent. charges £1 per MB if you go over (but mostly just charge you at limit for 7.5MB even if you go over by 300MB, the T-MOBILE & ORANGE opt in service where you cross signals is only for 2G for the forseeable future as they are currently in court with the contractor furfilling the joint service.

I got my iPhone 4 on Orange of PAYG , it's pretty good if you use the dolphin package.

The rewards and benefits on orange I' would say are the best then another phone network,
