    Default Scar Removal

    Hey guys,

My girlfriend is getting a scar removed from her knee in about a months time. It's about eight inches long and she's really worried it's not going to work. I don't like talking to her about it because she gets kinda emotional because of how worried she is and how much she hates it.

She said she won't know if the operation or whatever has worked until a couple of weeks later even though she won't have a cast. How does this even make sense? Can she not just look at her knee?? What could possibly go wrong in the procedure?

    +Rep for helpful/useful answers!

it's not as simple as 'can she just not look at her knee' - it's like when you get a small stain on your t-shirt, it's barely viable but you know it's there so you can't forget about it

you just need to keep reassuring her that it will all be fine whenever she brings up the topic

and if it gets a bit heated remind her to be grateful it's not somewhere more obvious like on her face or neck and that there are people in a lot worse situations

It's a plastic surgery procedure so it's not going to be visible at all. I do try reassure her that everything is going to be fine and try get her to think positive about the situation but she just says that she doesn't want to get her hopes up in case it doesn't work and she can't find the line between thinking positively and getting your hopes up.

I've said to her about the whole being grateful but it's pretty crazy how much she hates this thing.

I think she kneeds to overcome it yknow, move on... To be honest just be there for her, don't bring it up in convo unless she does and in which case try to ease her fears, i know you cant say it'll go well because you're not a doctor, but you're her bf so you know her best.

It's not something she's going to get over until it's completely gone. She brings it up often enough because she's always finding things that she loves doing that she won't be able to do for like two months after the operation but I always change the subject because I can see her getting upset. I know to be there for her but she's not letting myself or any of her friends into the hospital when she's in there which kinda sucks :/

You could say I know her best but I haven't even seen the whole thing mahself..

be there for her even if she doesn't want you to be. she may get upset looking at her knee I asked you about the fake tan. and it doesn't show that much you said. even so she will be happier when it's done! it must be very big if you havnt seen all of it. which is probably why she gets upset as she can see all of it all the time :/

I hope this makes sense haha I'm tired so it probably doesn't

This is exactly it. She always knows it's there so even when she does use this magic tan that covers it, she's still conscious because she knows it's there! We were and my brad ball on Monday and she was wearing a short dress which stopped at her knee so even without the tan you would have been able to see it. Even though she did use it ,and you could barely see it and would only see it if you knew it was there and looking for it, when we were sitting down she always had her dress covering it as much as possible and putting her hand over the rest.

Your saying shes getting upset that she wont be able to do certain things until a couple of months after? Then a couple of months after treat her to all the things she couldnt do during the recovery that way your making her feel better & your also more in her good books.

I deem that to be quite obvious, it wasn't really what I was asking
