    Default Girls Equal...

    ...in Throne Succession.

Girls equal in British throne succession

Sons and daughters of any future UK monarch will have equal right to the throne, after Commonwealth leaders agreed to change succession laws.

The leaders of the 16 Commonwealth countries where the Queen is head of state unanimously approved the changes at a summit in Perth, Australia.

It means a first-born daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would take precedence over younger brothers.

The ban on the monarch being married to a Roman Catholic was also lifted.

Under the old succession laws, dating back more than 300 years, the heir to the throne is the first-born son of the monarch. Only when there are no sons, as in the case of the Queen's father George VI, does the crown pass to the eldest daughter.

I'm glad to see Mr. Cameron and Mr. Clegg (both of whom did not win an election, nor have any mandate to tinker with the constitution) are focusing on male and female succession to the Crown and homosexual marriage which of course are such pressing issues to us all.

Meanwhile in the real world the Eurozone is in meltdown, the onslaught of Brussels power grabs continue onwards, our education system is rotten, our public services are bankrupt, our civil liberties are fast disappearing, immigration remains uncontrolled, our justice system is a joke and our national debt is rapidly increasing upwards while the Bank of England continues to destroy the Pound Sterling through 'quantative easing' (printing money out of thin air).

This doesn't mean much to me because I'm not from this part of the world, although it's always nice to see gender equality being implemented where it should be

I am actually really happy about this, couldn't sleep for weeks on end knowing that if William and Kate had an older girl and a younger boy, the girl would be brushed aside, madness!

Ahhhh, I can sleep well tonight.

Surely it does in some way as it will determine your next monach, as it will mine.

I'd also like to add i'm not staunchly opposed to the change, rather I believe our three best monarches have been female.

True I suppose, but most people of my generation couldn't tell you a single thing about the Royal Family in England. As time progresses over here the significance of the monarch seems to diminish (for instance, when there was a Royal Wedding and they came to Canada there was protests about us even being involved and paying for the Royal Family).

Edit: to prove we're clueless about such affairs I've probably made a million grammar mistakes above capitalizing the wrong things!

Good I guess? I can't think of any arguments against it and we've survived having Queens on the throne before, our current Queen has served us well so literally no complaints about this. I'm sort of looking forward to King Charles or King William though, just for a change of gender

The lift on catholics needs to be underlined properly otherwise our royal family won't be allowed their succession.
