Just about every fansite, has a rule "Do not play illegal music". Which kind of frustrates me considering you're suppose to be licenced to play music on air anyhows.

You can if it's bad quality. I mean 1. the people who would warn you for it would have "downloaded" songs as well. Face it... everyone does. Not only that, downloading songs is not actually illegal if you "download" from the right place. Such as real life club DJ's, they have there laptop set up with a special program running to allow to "download" songs. So that's also another reason why fansites shouldn't say "Do not play illegal songs".

Yeah, I use that, Not gonna name it on here, Dont need anymore warnings -.-
But yeah, they shouldn't say do not play illegal songs.
But usually sites that say illegal songs, they mean a DJ's water mark that plays at the beginning, during, and end of the song.
That is stealing another Dj's music. which shows you have illegal songs.
Also why i put my own personal audio watermark in all my songs

I thought as long as its not broadcasted by radio waves you dont need a licence?

I don't know much about licensing of online radios etc. but ultimately it is clearly highly unprofessional to use music which has been obtained for any organisation, and if this ever were exposed (ie. poor quality, radio rips etc.) it would like reflect particularly bad on the organisation and therefore there is often no tolerancy policies.
