[@]@iceninekills[/@] , i don't really see you posting much, especially recently so how can you expect to get rep without posting?
[@]@Jin[/@] , Those three suggestions as was previously said are overreactions to a problem that can be fixed a lot easier (I'm not too sure if you were joking about them though) .
[@]@flyingjesus[/@] , i don't agree with it being a full -rep power or fully free, more lenient sure but not totally free for all. A person with a high rep power in your case could just think it's funny to repetedly -rep a new user/ user that doesn't post much just too see them get into the red zone (and you know as well as i do that the kind of people who would do that exist on this forum).
Also to whoever said it, it's not as easy as that to check for revenge reps Jin. If i wanted to revenge rep somebody i would just go around it smartly, wait a few days or more and then find a new post of his/hers that's a goodcandidate . How couldyou prove it's revenge rep then?
I reiterate what i said earlier though, -rep does get removed far too easily. If something needs to be changed it's that.

Bonjour, la noirceur, mon vieil ami
Je suis venu te reparler
Car une vision piétinante doucement
A laissé ses graines lorsque je dormais
Et la vision
Qui était plantée dans mon cerveau
Demeure toujours
Parmi le son du silence

I just think people can be greedy. For example, someone gets 19 +reps and 1 legit -rep obviously the +reps are most likely going to be greater than the -rep but some people would still prefer to fight their way out of a paper bag. I think -rep gets removed as much as possible to shut people up and to maintain a positive forum. At least 5 or 6 of these threads come up a year, they stop removing -rep for a few months then it happens again. Obviously it's not deliberate.
I am and have always been up for rep to be treated equally. Even up until a while back they were removing pointless +reps i believe. I don't mean to be the grinch but the thread in spam every year for christmas that gives people rep is pointless, hence why it's in spam. Not that I disagree with it, it's nice for people to share some lovin' at christmas but if it's as easy as it is to get a -rep removed it should be the same for +rep to balance things out.

Yeah but that doesn't prove it's a revenge rep. It doesn't prove that the person who -repped the 2nd time -repped said person because they -repped him first. There's no proof of that. It could just be a coincidence. Highly unlikely but still impossible to prove. It could actually be a legitimate -rep that just happens to be from the same person they -repped earlier in the week/month.
The only -rep that I think should be dealt with is the accidental ones. When someone accidently -reps someone even though the comment says '+rep I agree' or whatever. Sounds silly but it does happen, happened to me. Didn't bother changing it but it should be open to change that![]()
That's actually a really good explanation never thought of that.Yeah but that doesn't prove it's a revenge rep. I've not agreed with the rep system for a long time and I have provided suggestions in the past.
Ideally I'd remove this idea of a global reputation which is clearly not representative and replace it with a rating for each post, and you do that as many times as you like, no limits. If you want you can have just likes/thanks or you can have a full set of ratings like facepunch.
Pros:
- No "oldies" advantage (This forum REALLY needs to become more accepting of new users, the churn rate hurts this forum a lot)
- No rep "power" which is easily abusable
- A system which is used much more often due to less restrictions on usage
-
Cons:
- No representative global statistics, although you could stick some statistics up if you wanted to. I always liked ratings per day which is fairly unbiased but w.e
- Everyone on the forum moans because rep wouldn't exist and the oldies don't like having their epeen chopped off
- Lack of rating limits mean people can negatively rate a single person on all their posts, although it's easy to spot
But as Jin said, the old people who are slowly leaving and will leave this forum as an empty carcass wouldn't like it so we should just take no action and let the forum die.
Chippiewill.
But then it sort of doesn't really respect the people who have been using this forum for years....
Again taking the word reputation literally, those who have higher reputations in the real world do have a bigger impact on those they dislike. Kid on the street says they don't like Person X and it makes very little difference, but someone highly respected says it and Person X takes a far bigger bashing to their reputation.[@]@flyingjesus[/@], i don't agree with it being a full -rep power or fully free, more lenient sure but not totally free for all. Also that totallyis funny to do
If they've managed to find a post that warrants a -rep and have put a repcomment to thateffectthen it doesn't matter if it's been done as"revenge" rep, it's still got a valid reasonYeah but that doesn't prove it's a revenge rep.
