As FlyingJesus has no doubt said, reputation IS simply reputation, it doesn't need regulation. IF you act like a complete douche then your reputation will reflect it - even the comments. The only time intervention is needed if it becomes completely insensitive or bullying e.g. mocking someone because a loved one has died. If it relates to the post then it should stay, and any editing is purely for aesthetic reasons to remove unfiltered swears (if that is an issue to some).

The same goes for people randomly +repping. They are clearly receiving rep because they are popular, possibly because they have a good reputation with the forum and therefore make enjoyable posts. It's as simple as that.

So maybe the way to fix all this is to say, no more removing -reps...

Any rep really. Sometimes +reps are removed. They used to warn members requesting that any pointless + or - rep maybe removed at the same time, whether you asked or not.

I feel that if you know -reps have been removed which unless the person tells you they have you would not know then if you are not happy about it then complain via the complaints system or via pm. At least then you would get a response as to why it was removed. Personally I very, very rarely use -rep. It is easier to reply to the post to get your point across imo.

you can see through your reputation given. each time i -repped oli when he was admin i could see it removed that very day on my user cp..

i like rep how it is, i don't like how someone mentioned the 'oldies advantage'. the only people that seperate the oldies from the new are generally the new ones or those that aren't in the 'clique' (which isn't even half as bad as before - there is hardly a clique anymore, people need to move on.). also what people seem to forget is that years ago (probably before the end of 2007) members got quite high rep powers easily even if they weren't well liked because rep power was easier achieved - less rep was required to go up a power which in turn meant that when repping someone their rep would go up easier and you could buy rep then. nowadays it's harder to go up a power so does show your actual forum 'rep'/popularity. when it got changed so that it was harder to go up there was a total uproar and a few people left lol (ie Jazza) so changing it again wouldn't be the best option. i go through periods of getting no rep for a week or 2 then in 1 or 2 days i'll get up to 10 reps - and not from the same people. i think it's used less because there are less people actually using the forum and you have to spread more, not because it's less important.

i'm not gonna lie, i like my rep power because i know that i've earned it, even without the christmas reputation i still get a fair few on top of that and have for the past few years. i only ever rep my 'friends' if they make a good post :S & yeah it's nice that i know i have more reputation than most members and that my power is higher, i do like that but not in a "i'm superior" way or to use it to -rep people but because if people see it they'll (hopefully) understand that maybe i have actually contributed to the forum but meh whatever. i have been active since i started using the forum and have a decent amount of posts - the same as the other people with high reputations. it makes sense. if you post more, get involved more - you gain a better reputation. so yeah chippiewill you're right, i wouln't like my 'epeen' to be removed.

the most pointless rep i hear of is from people with LOWER repuation power (ie new people who generally use habbo cough staff cough). also you're lucky cause whenever i'd ask for -rep to be removed when n!ck was manager they would never get removed only my +reps would lol and he removed 100's from people... honestly i don't see what's wrong with the reputation system PLEASE just leave it alone we don't need everything changed >.> soz tired don't make sense only read a few shut up [@]@stephen![/@] i +repped sly when u kept -repping him lol ;l

I forgot about that even though it is quite a recent innovation. The example you quoted is a bit sad as it is not exactly the end of the world to receive a -rep and I would like to think that it doesn't happen now.

I totally agree. There was an instance of a splurge of pointless repping but NVRSPK4 sorted that I believe by changing the reputation system and basically downgraded and N!ck took his duties way too seriously imo. The points brought up by Ross could be looked into by the management but otherwise as you say nothing needs to be changed. [@]@Stephen[/@] hopefully this is a joke otherwise you have have opened the door wide open for somebody to check your records. You also quoted a spambot!

The system ignores '!' if I remember correctly, people need to be putting tags around them.

Reputation needs to be made more lenient but not drastically changed i think. Should be interesting to see what management have to say on this matter.
Bonjour, la noirceur, mon vieil ami
    Je suis venu te reparler
    Car une vision piétinante doucement
A laissé ses graines lorsque je dormais
    Et la vision
Qui était plantée dans mon cerveau
    Demeure toujours
    Parmi le son du silence
